IndexNow: One Notification, Five Search Engines

Instead of waiting for crawlers to come back, your hub tells Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam and Yep when a page is added, changed or removed.

Search engines find new pages by coming back to check. For a site that publishes every day, that wait is the gap between a useful answer existing and anyone being able to find it.

IndexNow closes part of that gap. It is an open protocol, launched by Microsoft Bing and Yandex in 2021 and since adopted by other engines, that lets a site say “these addresses changed” instead of waiting to be noticed.

    Who receives the notification

Five search engines take part: Bing; Yandex; Naver, the leading search portal in South Korea; Seznam, the Czech search engine; and Yep, the independent engine from Ahrefs. A notification sent to the shared IndexNow endpoint is passed to all of them, so one message covers every participant. Google does not take part, which is why Authority also keeps your Search Console sitemap current.

What your hub sends, and when

Every time a page publishes, Authority compares the hub’s live pages with what search engines were last told. New articles, edited articles, home and category pages whose lists changed, and pages that were removed are sent. Unchanged pages are not. Once a week the whole hub is checked again, so an edit or an unpublished page is never missed for long.

    How ownership is proven

Each hub has its own key, and the hub serves it as a small text file at its own address. When a notification arrives, the engine can fetch that file to confirm the site really sent it. There is no login and nothing to paste, and it works the same on a Review Revolution hosted address and on your own subdomain.

What it changes, and what it does not

IndexNow shortens discovery. It does not force a page into an index and it does not move rankings. Microsoft describes it as a way to keep “information fresh across search and AI experiences”, which is the honest framing: fresher, not higher.

    Where to see it working

The Performance tab in Authority shows how many pages are tracked, when the hub was last synced, when the next weekly sync is due, and each submission with the response the engines returned. If a submission fails, the reason is shown there too, and “Sync now” sends any pending changes immediately.

Fresher, not higher: IndexNow shortens discovery and promises nothing else.
